In today's times, many students qualify for TAA assistance. TAA assistance is offered to individuals who have lost their jobs due to outsourcing. A student will be offered these benefits through the Department of Workforce Services, DWFS. A student must meet with their assigned case worker at DWFS before setting up their advising appointment at NorthWest Arkansas Community College.

There are some important documents to bring to your first appointment at NWACC:

1. Identification

2. A blank TAA 6 state form (provided by the case worker at DWFS).

3. A blank TAA schedule form

Once at NWACC, perspective TAA students need to meet with Lenora Sotlar. The first meeting, before the application or testing has been completed, can be on a walk in basis. Subsequent meetings will be by appointment only. The advising center is located on the second floor of the student center. You can call for more information at 479-619-4298.

TAA eligible students, who have decided to enroll at NWACC will need to complete the following steps:

1. Complete an application and pay the 10.00 application fee. As a side note, TAA does not pay for application fees.

2. Turn in test scores. Students who have taken the ACT or Compass, within the last five years, can submit those scores for admission and placement purposes. Students who have not taken a placement test will need to take the Compass test. The Compass test is offered every day, in the Testing Center, located on the third floor of the Student Center. There is a 10.00 testing fee that TAA will not pay for.

3. Complete orientation. After a student has completed the application and turned in test scores, or taken the test, the student will need to complete online orientation. The orientation is available in the advising center.

4. Meet with Lenora Sotlar. After finishing the previous steps, please set up an appointment to met with Lenora. At the first advising appointment, a degree plan will be selected, state and school paperwork will be completed, and the program will be explained. Please plan on at least an hour for this appointment.

5. After new students are registered for classes, there are a couple more steps to complete! Pick up your free parking pass from the Police Department, located on the first floor of Burns Hall. Also, pick up your student ID from the library. You will need your student id number and be prepared to take a picture!

The most important part of TAA is to make sure you ask any and all questions you may have. If you would like more information, please contact Lenora Sotlar at Lsotlar@nwacc.edu , or 479-986-4022!
